Honiton Osteopathic Centre

Here at Honiton Osteopathic and Cranial Osteopathy Centre we are the longest established practice in Devon and the West Country with specialists in a particularly gentle and useful development of Osteopathy called Cranial Osteopathy; principals David and Rowan Douglas-Mort have over 34yrs of clinical experience in these skills . Cranial Osteopathy does not use any heavy manipulative techniques, which enhances its safety. Our patients tell us that it is effective and well tolerated by everyone, even the most sensitve individual. We have been told by patients that they have found Cranial Osteopathy helpful for people of all ages and stages of life, from young babies to senior citizens. We are also able to provide cranial osteopathy treatment [subject to veterinary permission] for pet, companion and farm animals in conjunction with our Axminster Animal Osteopaths branch where we can offer Equine Osteopathy and Equine Cranial Osteopathy. Canine and feline osteopathy and  canine and feline cranial osteopathy can be arranged in at Honiton Osteopathic Centre.

Stop Press  [A.S.A. regulations]

Currently due to recent antagonism towards complementary medicine in some quaters, the Advertising Standards Authority [ASA] now requires that our website information only lists us as being able to help patients suffering from the complaints for which there is existing high level research or gold standard proof, [i.e double blind trials] that manual therapy is efficacious. This posses a problem for Osteopathy, as double blind research trials usually require in the order of £600,000. or more  to fund each individual trial, and the requirements of double blind trials are frequently unsuited technically and ethically to a 'patient centred' individually tailored approach like Osteopathy. As there is no government funding for Osteopathic research, and the drug companies would not be interested in funding research into drug free treatments, we have no outside financing for Osteopathic research. This means that funding has of necessity to come from the profession itself, so costs have to be kept to reasonable levels.

However, whilst we do not have double blind research evidence regarding many conditions that our patients say that we have successfully helped them with, we do have a growing body of case studies, qualitative research studies, practice audits, testimonials, and affirmations that Osteopathy has been highly beneficial in many other conditions that we may not mention here.
